What is Collagen Induction

Collagen Induction Therapy is something we seem to be getting asked about a lot lately. Collagen Induction refers to treatments that promote or induce the skin’s natural collagen healing process. When the skin is exposed to trauma, the body creates collagen in the affected area to encourage the formation of new skin. As we all know, new skin is a good thing. Collagen is arguably the most essential ingredient to young-looking skin, so, along with Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen stimulation is a very good thing.

So how do we traumatise the skin to induce the collagen response? There are many ways to do this, some have better results than others. One of the most common ways is to use dermal needling. This is a treatment that involves puncturing the epidermis (surface layer of the skin) with hundreds of tiny needles to cause ‘controlled trauma’ and induce the collagen response. Usually a numbing cream is applied first, to reduce the discomfort. At The Cosmetic Clinic, we combine our dermal needling treatment with Radio Frequency (RF) which heats the tissue & stimulates collagen production. This leads to the reduction of fine lines, large pores and loose skin. Combining the two techniques creates a much deeper and more beneficial Collagen response than just dermal needling alone. Less treatments are required and results are generally much better.
